But it's not just O-Week advisors that are here during O-Week. There are even more Hanszenites that are here to welcome you to Rice and to Hanszen!
The H-Team is what Hanszen calls the dedicated team of adults and their families who live at Hanszen and who provide endless wisdom and resources to all Hanszenites. They include the Magisters, whose house is by Old Section and the grove, three sets of Resident Associates (RAs) spread across Old Section and New Section, and a College Coordinator with her office in the Commons. Their job is to make sure Hanszen is running properly, throw excellent study breaks, and serve as mentors and confidants for Hanszenites to support us through the highs and lows of college life. Click here for more information about the H-Team.
Team MastEr Builders is our hard-working and dynamic team of O-Week coordinators. Angela, Ethan, and Mateo have worked tirelessly since January to plan this week and make sure it is the best welcome we can give you to Rice and to Hanszen. See their Welcome Letter for more information.
Next we have Team BriCk and MorTY, Hanszen's LegO-Week Peer Academic Advisors. This team is here to help you with any and all of your academic needs during O-Week, primarily your course selection for Fall 2024. They are also a great resource for advice on majors (though you don't need to declare a major until the spring of sophomore year), minors, and certificate programs. If you have a question, don't be afraid to stop them and ask them for advice. It's why they are here! There are also faculty advisors that you will have time to meet with during the week.
Doing the extremely important work of capturing all the wonderful experiences of O-Week is our Photo/Video team. You will often see them around Hanszen with their cameras, and at the end of O-Week we all gather to watch their movie and relive the past week.
Light bulb out? A/C broken? Bed too high or too low for your liking? If you are experiencing any of these problems, then our Student Maintenance Representative (SMR) is your solution. They will be trained in fixing common dorm problems, and are Hanszen's liaison to Housing and Dining (H&D). They also will periodically send updates to Hanszen from H&D.
